Objective: To build the organization's leadership capacity at the country and global support team level. Content needed to be relevant in multiple cultures and for leaders with varying levels of on-the-job experience. Since participants were all over the globe, the classes were virtual.
Approach: Adults learn by doing. Rather than condense the learning in a two-day workshop or retreat, classes met for one-hour every two weeks. Between classes, participants were asked to test and practice one of the concepts taught within the context of their job and then share their experiences at the next session. This enabled participants to immediately apply what they were learning to their work. To encourage sharing, groups were kept small and comprised of peers with similar levels of responsibility and experience. This enabled us to tailor the content based on the group's experience.
